ABOUT APCES

UiTM-ACCA Asia Pacific Centre for Sustainability (APCeS)

The UiTM-ACCA Asia-Pacific Centre for Sustainability (APCeS) was established in 2008 and is a project initiated by the Faculty of Accountancy with ACCA Malaysia, a leading international professional accountancy body dedicated to environmental and social reporting issues. Currently, APCeS is one of the research centres under the Accounting Research Institute (ARI). Recent global calls for more sustainable forms of development, as well as corporate scandals, conflicts of cultures, and ideologies provoke the need for businesses to acknowledge and take account of environmental, social and ethical issues. The trend to report on social, environmental, ethical and financial issues in an integrated manner is increasingly referred to as 'sustainability reporting'. APCeS aims to promote the development and application of global sustainability principles within the Asia-Pacific region and to become a ‘Catalytic Centre’ to bring about qualitative improvements in the Corporate Sustainability Practices within the Asian-Pacific region. It is hoped that the collaboration between an academic institution such as UiTM and a leading professional body such as ACCA will be a key role in promoting good governance and corporate sustainability within the country and the region. The establishment of the Centre by UiTM will put the University in the global ‘road map’ for sustainability.
